Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount

Fr. Harry Bury is 95 and a long-time member of the Association of US Catholic Priests. As a member of AUSCP’s working group on Gospel Nonviolence, he has shared this reflection:
Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount said: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” It is difficult for me to understand Israel not letting baby milk into Gaza and thereby contributing to Palestinian genocide, and joining the USA in bombing Iran. Ghandi liberated India through active nonviolence, and no British or Indian mothers wept over the death of their sons. He did good to those who were enslaving the people of India. I have been told that Gandhi, in his adult life, read the Sermon on the Mount every day. He perceived Jesus to be attractive. Christians and Jews not so much.
