A covenant is very different than a contract. The term “contract” refers to an agreement over the exchange of goods and services while the term “covenant” is an exchange between persons. In ancient Israel, covenants created familial bonds between two parties and often stipulated mutual privileges and responsibilities.

Thanks to Michael Mazza for this breaking news! In a letter dated 5 September 2024, and posted on their website the last week of February 2025, the Dicastery for Legislative Texts condemned the practice of publishing “list of credibly accused clerics.”
