Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 1, 2024

The one who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord

(Psalm 15:1a)

Calling for YOUR Input! What can AUSCP be for you?

Dear Members and Friends,

Thank you for being with AUSCP, whether you joined on your own, received membership as a gift, or are involved as a Friend. As I told our brothers who were ordained this year, we cannot be an association of US priests unless we are open to the wishes and needs of ALL Catholic priests in the United States, regardless of their age, ministry, or even theological or ecclesiological perspective, and unless we engage with the wider Church as collaborators.

Our mission is clear. We are a home for the People of God. We offer mutual support through contemplation, dialogue, and prophetic action. Dialogue requires partners, not just people of one vision but of many visions to approach the truth that is Christ.

We serve in the line of Melchizedek, a man of righteousness and peace. Through the Eucharist, we lead God’s people to the Real Presence of the Risen Christ in the consecrated host and in other places where He is not easily seen, wherever two or more are gathered.

Fellow priests, our work is challenging and often tiring. We don’t always find the support we need. We are expected to know more than any human can possibly know. We can be lonely and without opportunities to refresh ourselves in healthy ways. Perhaps we are without the time and resources needed to keep up with the best practices for our ministries.

And so I ask you: “What do you need? What do you want? What can we do in an association that we cannot do alone?” What do you want your association to be for you? What topics need to be better addressed? What issues need to be tackled? What new frontiers need exploration? What resources are required? How can our working groups, assemblies, webinars, and Friends better serve the membership? Let us know. Send your ideas of what you want AUSCP to be for you, and tell us if you can play a role in helping make them real. Send them to me (auscpexdir@gmail.com) or to the office (auscpoffice2011@gmail.com). We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours in the Risen Christ,

Steve Newton, CSC, AUSCP Executive Director

Special Note re La Croix newsletter: No one who is current in their AUSCP membership has been removed from the group subscription for La Croix. If you received an email (or emails) from La Croix to this effect, there is an error on their part. We are working to correct this, but this has been a recurring problem at their end.
