The Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Christophe Pierre, has accepted an invitation to participate in the next Assembly of the Association of U.S. Catholic Priests, June 22-25. Archbishop Pierre is scheduled to preside and preach at the Assembly Mass, June 24. The Assembly will be held at the Maritime Conference Center near the Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
The AUSCP is the largest group of its kind in the United States, with membership of 1,200 priests and 185 friends. The association was formed in 2010 and has attracted national and world speakers to its annual assemblies, including clergy, vowed religious and lay leaders.
The theme of the 2020 Assembly coincides with the national election year, “Our Catholic Faith in the Political World.” The theme will be examined by keynote speakers, Archbishop John Wester, Sister Carol Keehan, D.C., and John Carr. Archbishop Wester of Santa Fe is the USCCB episcopal moderator of the priests’ association. Sister Keehan is the former executive director of the Catholic Health Association. Carr is the founder and director of the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown University.
The Assembly will begin on Monday, June 22, with a retreat led by Sister Carol Zinn, SSJ, executive director of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. During the Assembly, Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, will guide participants in contemplative reflection on the topics explored.
