In 2017 she began hearing immigration cases in Chicago.  The webinar will give Jenna time to give us her personal history and some comments on items submitted by the AUSCP Immigration Working Group and other areas of interest.  There will be a time for questions and comments in a controlled atmosphere. The webinar should be very informational in telling on the life of an immigration judge.

DESCRIPTION:(Time of webinar is based on Eastern Time Zone) \nThe presenter will again be theologian Joseph Torma\, Ph.D. with Bob Bonnot serving as moderator of the sessions. These webinars are now designed to have Dr. Torma present two or three segments with group dialogues between each segment. Our prior 3 series have dealt with bishops\, priests\, and laity after first establishing the central summary document of Vatican II\, Gaudium et Spes. Over the decades since the Council there has been a dramatic reduction of religious women in the United States (from 181\,421 in 1965 to 39\,452 in 2021) and of ordained men (58\,632 priests in 1965 to 35\,513 in 2020\, a large number of whom are now retired). Given those statistics and the reorganization of the Vatican by establishing a new set of dicasteries\, the two conciliar documents in this series will challenge our grasp of how they are being applied to the life of the Church in new ways — or need to be. \nThe series begins on March 1 and continues each succeeding week for 5 weeks; the time for each is 4PM (EST).

SUMMARY:The Sixtieth Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom
DESCRIPTION:On August 28\, 1963\, more than 250\,000 people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It was a turning point in the moral struggle and journey toward greater racial and economic justice in the United States. Civil rights\, religious\, and labor leaders helped organize the march\, calling for an end to segregation and racial discrimination\, as well as advocating for fair wages and economic justice\, voting rights\, education\, and long-overdue civil rights protections. At the end of the march\, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. challenged America\, saying “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident\, that all men are created equal.’”\nSixty years later we continue to face fundamental moral challenges in overcoming racism and honoring “a promise that all… would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life\, liberty\, and the pursuit of happiness.” This in-person and online dialogue will examine what more needs to be done to advance freedom\, equality\, and justice for all. How are we keeping Dr. King’s dream alive? And where are we falling short? What are the responsibilities of Catholics and other people of faith to make this dream a reality?\nParticipants include Sr. Anita Baird\, DHM\, Marc Morial\, Andrew Prevot\, and Lauren Reliford.

DESCRIPTION:The Vatican II Documents webinar series\, Our Mission: Leavening Humankind in Today’s World\, will restart on Wednesday\, September 6 @ 4pm ET.  AUSCP’s 2023 Webinars regarding the Second Vatican Council through September and October will refresh our awareness and application of 5 Vatican II documents from the full 16 documents of the Council. Dr. Joseph Torma will again be the presenter. Fr. Bob Bonnot will serve as Moderator. \nThe laity functions in society and culture as leaven in the dough of the world. Their mission is to make our world what God wants. That makes it critical that individuals who function singly and together as leaven receive the training and direction necessary for this role\, this ministry\, this service to God’s People. For the first time since the fourth century A.D.\, all 100% of the baptized\, rather than only the 1% clergy\, have been explicitly called by the Church to grow the fullness of Christian life in today’s world. \nThe following five documents were approved by the Council in different years from 1963 to 1965. One of them was a Constitution (there are 4 of them) — Dei Verbum/Divine Revelation. The other four are either a declaration (there are 3 of them) or a decree (there are 9 of them). The variety of topics and types remain applicable to the life of the Church today. All of them continue to challenge us in one way or another\, enriching our approach to the two synods coming up in 2023 and 2024. We invite all to join us. All sessions are scheduled at 4pm ET on Wednesdays. \nThese are the dates and the topics: \nSeptember 6 — Revelation as addressed by Dei Verbum\nSeptember 13 — Non-Christian Religions as addressed by Nostra Aetate\nOctober 4 — Eastern Catholic Churches as addressed by Orientalium Ecclesiarum\nOctober 11 — Ecumenism as addressed by Unitatis Redintegratio\nOctober 18 — Social Communications Media addressed by Inter Mirifica.

DESCRIPTION:In-person and via Zoom\n\n\n\n\nFrom Sunday\, November 12 at 7:30 pm to Friday\, November 17 after brunch\nLocation:\nFranciscan Retreats & Spirituality Center\nPrior Lake\, MN \n\nAbout The Retreat\n\nThis annual retreat for priests and deacons has evolved over the years to meet the needs for silent reflection\, prayer\, conversation and community.  It includes morning prayer with a reflective conference\, evening prayer\, and Liturgy and a centering prayer session each day.  There is conversation at noon and evening meals\, the rest of the times is silent. \nEach retreatant will have the opportunity to meet privately with a spiritual director to reflect on the daily movements of the Spirit in his life. \nThe retreat will be directed by members of the Loyola staff\, and others\, who are professional spiritual directors and experienced in retreat ministry. The role of retreat director is to support the retreatant in noticing the reality of God’s presence and activity in their life. \nIncluded each day: \n\nIndividual session with a retreat director\nLiturgy of the Eucharist\nGroup centering prayer\nMorning prayer & conference\nEvening prayer\n\nMassage is available upon request for an additional fee\, payable to the massage therapist.
